Reviving Tradition: Ailing Tian's Sunny Chinese House

Blending Traditional Chinese Aesthetics with Modern Comfort

In a world where modernity often overshadows tradition, Ailing Tian's Sunny Chinese House stands as a beacon of harmonious fusion between the two. This award-winning design breathes new life into traditional Chinese architecture, infusing it with modern aesthetics and comfort.

The Sunny Chinese House, designed by Ailing Tian, is a unique residential project that draws its inspiration from the owner's love for traditional Chinese culture and the natural state of life. The owner desired a living environment that would embody the essence of traditional Chinese architecture, yet overcome its inherent limitations of over-repression and darkness. Ailing Tian, with her innovative design approach, has managed to fulfill this desire, creating a residence that is both traditionally Chinese and comfortably modern.

The design of the Sunny Chinese House is characterized by a distinctive Chinese traditional home atmosphere. It adopts the structural layout of Chinese architecture and incorporates Chinese design elements. However, what sets this design apart is its successful integration of ample natural lighting and improved traditional Chinese furniture, resulting in a more comfortable living experience.

The realization of this design concept was achieved through a two-pronged approach: the embodiment of Chinese style and the improvement of living comfort. The Chinese style was manifested through the symmetrical layout of interior furnishings, the construction of a new stone exterior wall to mimic a traditional Chinese courtyard structure, and the use of Chinese-style design furniture, calligraphy, and paintings. On the other hand, living comfort was enhanced by replacing the exterior walls of the public area in the living room with full glass windows, adding features like skylights, sunrooms, and terraces to the bedroom, and creating more comfortable new Chinese furniture based on the templates of the Chinese Ming Dynasty furniture.

The project, a detached villa with an interior area of 400 square meters spread over four floors, was designed and constructed over a period of a year and a half, from March 2017 to September 2018. It is located at No.666, Baosheng Road, Liang Lu, Yubei District, Chongqing, China. The design team included Design Director Tian Ailing and Soft Outfit Designer Deng Qian.

The Sunny Chinese House has been recognized for its innovative design and has been awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
